James Robert Reynolds, 90, of North Charleston, South Carolina, widower of Betty Jane Scruggs Reynolds, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, March 18, 2018. Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of his life Wednesday, March 21, 2018, from 5 to 7 o'clock at the Carolina Memorial Park Chapel, 7113 River Avenue. Memorial Service to be held on Thursday, March 22, 2018, at 1100 o'clock at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.
Jimmy was born at Baker Hospital in Charleston, South Carolina, on December 9, 1927. He grew up on Vanderhorst Street and attended Murray Vocational School before enlisting in the United States Army on March 23, 1946, where he served 18 months as a Med Aidman on the hospital ship the USS Hope. Upon returning to Charleston, he was employed at Dunham Motors on Meeting Street, which began a career in the local automobile industry that would span 47 years. He eloped and married Betty Jane Scruggs on October 10, 1953, in Richland, South Carolina, his partner in life for 63 years before her passing in 2016.
He was an avid sportsman but was happiest doing anything involving the ocean or the water. His passion was to deep sea fish for spanish and king mackerel and scuba dive. He was a life long member of the Masons and attended Wando Woods Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Green Reynolds and Evelyn Humbert Reynolds, his wife, Betty Scruggs Reynolds, and youngest daughter Robin Reynolds Rutschmann, a brother, William Reynolds, and two half brothers, Jack and Earl Reynolds.He is survived by his two daughters Connie Reynolds Barbour (William), and Beth Reynolds Morris (Dave), three grand children, Heather Johnson (Chris), Joshua and Taylor Beckman, his only sister, Catherine Cordray, youngest brother Jesse Reynolds and numerous nieces and nephews
