Jerry was born on March 26, 1937, in Mount View, Arkansas, to John Oakley Money and Gracie Alexander. Jerry quit school in the 4th grade to help support his family on their farm. He later obtained his GED and joined the Navy as an electrician’s mate. On May 27, 1958, Jerry married his loving wife, Betty Parks, in a last-minute double wedding in Miami, Oklahoma. The other couple was his brother Dale and Dale’s bride, Margaret, who was also Betty’s best friend at the time. Jerry and Betty were married for 67 years, and during that time they had five children who, as of today, blessed them with fourteen grandchildren and twenty-five great-grandchildren.
After several tours in the Vietnam War and 20 years of honorable service, Jerry retired from the Navy as Chief Electrician’s Mate. He went on to work for several companies in the chemical and power industries until he officially retired at age 58. Everywhere Jerry worked, he made significant contributions and was very well respected. He had a presence that commanded respect, and at the same time he was compassionate, dedicated, generous, and loving. He was a great leader and mentor to his fellow service members, his colleagues, and most importantly to his children. Jerry had strong Christian beliefs, was always there for his family, and was always willing to help others, even those he did not know.
Jerry had a love of learning and making things work. He rebuilt everything from car engines and bulldozers to boats, and repaired anything electronic, electrical, or mechanical. In fact, Jerry and Betty worked together to build their home while living in an old 15-foot travel trailer in Noel, Missouri, where they lived from December 1995 to January 2018. They later moved to Blair, SC, and finally to Bonneau, SC. Jerry enjoyed fishing, boating, and the outdoors. He had a passion for researching and learning about his family lineage. Jerry would often say he was a “jack of all trades, master of none,” but all who knew him would say he was simply the humble man he had always been.
Above all else, Jerry loved and cherished his family. He loved being a father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and his pride in his children and grandchildren was endless.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Jerry Money (Wen), Pamela Armstrong (Chris), April Carter (Trey), and Tom Money (Nicki). Money and Dale Money; his sisters, Naomi Dabbs, Merrill Tabbs, Geneva Ivey, Faye Quinn, and Betty Ralston; and his grandchildren, Melanie Mills Mulder and Joshua Money (survived by Baylea).
