
Jesse James (Buster) Dukes, Jr., 65, died unexpectedly on the morning of Friday, April 29 at his home. Son of Ada Pauline White Dukes and Jesse James Dukes, Sr., Buster was born on August 16, 1950 in McCormick, South Carolina. He was a graduate of North Charleston High School and attended Trident Technical College. He also served six years in the United States Air Force Reserves. Buster was an electrician by trade and was retired from the Charleston Naval Shipyard Shop 06. He was a faithful member of Portside Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and played handbells, was a member of the Faith Sunday School class, and liked keeping the church grounds looking beautiful. He enjoyed fellowship, fishing, and his South Carolina Stingrays. Buster was a man of few words but often conveyed his thoughts through his warm, brown eyes. The world has lost the most loving and caring of men. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Carol Dickens Dukes, sister Diana Coker (Mickey), two brothers Brad Dukes (Susie) and Don Dukes (Dina), sister-in-law Cyndi Waters (Jack), his mother-in-law Doris Conner, and five nieces and three nephews. Buster was predeceased by both parents. Visitation will be on Monday, May 2, 2016 from noon until 1:00 at Carolina Memorial Gardens with service and burial immediately following. Pallbearers will be provided by Portside Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Portside Baptist Church, 1179 Remount Road, North Charleston, South Carolina 29406 or American Heart Association, 4217 Park Place Court, Glenn Allen, Virginia 23060-9979.
