John was born in Charleston, SC, a son of the late Clarence Orestus and Josephine Miles Mathews McGee. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He retired in 2012 after working at many places in the area including; B&M Marine Repair, Water Tight Closures for the U.S. Navy, R&M Building making propoly tanks for firetrucks, Hollow metal doors, and Chemical doors for West Vaco.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter Day Saints.
John is survived by a two daughters, Tina Browder Johnston and Tammy McGee (Matt) Brown, and a son, Johnny (Julie) McGee, his grandchildren, Megan (Reid) Thrower, Gabriel (Jazmine) Brown, Alexandria Brown, and Caroline McGee, his brother-in-laws, Mavon (Jo) Jernigan, Eddie (Denise) Jernigan, and Kelly (Rose) Jernigan, extended family, Barbara (John) Davis, and a god-son, Dezjaran Donte Dorsey.
In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by his siblings, Clarence Orestus McGee, Jr.,Willis E. McGee, and Betty Jean McGee.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 12:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.
The family would like to thank Intrepid Hospice especially JoAnne Atkins who spent so much time with him prior to his death.
