Relatives and friends of John E. Murdaugh are invited to attend his funeral service at 12:00 noon, Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the graveside, Carolina Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
John was born in Charleston, South Carolina on October 17, 1930. He was the son of John G. and Tazee Landreth Murdaugh. After a short time in the U.S. Coast Guard, John worked at, and retired from Garco Mill in North Charleston, SC. After retirement, he and Laura moved to Round O. John loved fishing, gardening and living in the country.
Survivors include his sons, Mark (Kimberly), and Mike (Christy) Murdaugh; grandchildren, Kari Harrison Morris (Justin), John Murdaugh, III (Leslie), Kevin Murdaugh (April), Mark Murdaugh, II, Courtney Benoit (Devon), Michael Murdaugh II, and Laura Murdaugh; his great-grandchildren, Zoey and Emma Morris, Wyatt, Alivia, Kylie, Keller, Emily, Alison Murdaugh and Ellie Benoit. He is also survived by his brother, Larry K. Murdaugh of Fernando Beach, Florida, a sister-in-law, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Laura Caroline Burton Murdaugh; a son, John Ellis Murdaugh, Jr.; brothers, Robert Douglas “Bubba” Murdaugh, Donald Richard Murdaugh, Vernon Murdaugh, and sisters, Hazel Murdaugh Masterson and Brenda Murdaugh Camp.
