

Relatives and friends of Karen Hopkins are invited to attend her Celebration of Life Service at 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of service on Saturday.
Karen was born on November 28, 1963, in Charleston, South Carolina, to Wiley B Dean and Zella Murray Dean and grew up with her brother (Dennis Dean), and sister (Joyce Nordlund). Karen graduated from North Charleston High School in 1982 and spent the next four decades working at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and SPAWAR prior to her retirement in 2022.
Karen met her husband, Ronald Hopkins, through mutual friends and married in 1986. The couple had three children together, Jennifer Hopkins, Heather Lundy, and Brandon Hopkins.
Karen loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed arts and crafts, gardening, thrifting, and bird watching. Karen was very active in the local deaf community, serving as the secretary of the Lowcountry Chapter of the Deaf and later the Committee of Deaf Lowcountry Senior Citizens.
Karen is preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Hopkins, father, Wiley B Dean, mother, Zella Dean, and sister, Joyce Nordlund.
She is survived by her children, Jennifer Hopkins, Heather Lundy (Scott), and Brandon Hopkins, grandchildren, Rachel Cameron, Rowan Lundy, Charlotte Roberts, and brother, Dennis Dean, and many cousins and nephews.
