Margaret Grace Collins Pate, daughter of the late Hardy Tanner Collins and Mae Bradshaw Collins, passed away December 11, 2023, at age 91. Margaret was born in Fairmont, North Carolina on June 16, 1932.
She married the love of her life, the late A.J. Pate, in Dillion, South Carolina on January 15, 1948. They enjoyed 44 years of a blissful marriage prior to his passing in 1992. Marrying at a very young age allowed these two love birds to grow up together. They traveled many wonderful places while A.J. was in the Navy including, England, Panama, California, Illinois and Virgina. During this time, they raised two sons and after 20 years in the Navy, A.J. retired and they settled in Charleston, South Carolina. A few years later, they added a daughter to the family and made a permanent home in Hanahan, South Carolina. They were a shining example of a strong marriage and they were rarely apart except when A.J. was out for duty with the Navy. Once they settled in Charleston, they enjoyed spending time with family and hosting oyster roasts. She was also a long-time member of Highland Park Baptist Church.
Margaret was a wonderful homemaker for 30 years and she thoroughly enjoyed crocheting. She made some beautiful heirloom pieces that will be cherished forever. In the late 70’s she learned the art of dog grooming. Throughout the 1980’s, they opened several dog grooming salons in area of Hanahan and North Charleston. Margaret and AJ enjoyed doing this together for many years and met many wonderful people.
Margaret was a devoted and loving wife, a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, Donald J. Pate (Patty) of Hanahan, SC; Gary Michael Pate of Charleston, SC; her daughter, Michell P Weil (Steve) of Charleston, SC; 5 grandsons, Donald B Pate, Anthony J Pate, Stephen Morton Weil II, Andrew J Weil and Jack P Weil; 3 great-grandsons, Dalton, Jaxon and A.J.
