Margie S. Jenkins, 95, of North Charleston, SC, went to be with her Lord, Wednesday, November 13, 2019. Margie was born in Walterboro, SC on April 10, 1924 to the late, Charles Thomas and Provy Ziegler.
She grew up on a rural farm in Andrews, SC. She was the second of ten siblings. She was a loving caretaker to her younger siblings. She in fact was present at the birth of one brother and assisted with the delivery under difficult conditions. Margie graduated from Andrews High School where she then moved to Charleston, SC. She began working at Edward's Five and Dime. A few years later she rescued her younger sister, Julia by having her move to Charleston and work with her at Edward's. Margie and Julia were inseparable. They both met the love of their lives, Margie's was Nix and Julia's was Andrew. The four of them did many things together over the years, had children, and made it a priority for both families to be together as much as possible. Margie enjoyed her Sunday dinners at her mothers home. She was very active in her church and working with the 4 and 5 year old children during Sunday School. She and Nix enlightened their sons and were instrumental in their spiritual growth and development throughout their lives. She was a very loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife. She was married to Nix for 42 years before he passed away in 1987. She devoted her time and energy in his care and was by his bedside for 6 months up until he went to be with the Lord. Later in her church life she enjoyed Mary McCart's Sunday School Class at Highland Park Baptist Church. She also enjoyed fellowship with the class members and would encourage them through cards. One of her friends recently said they always got a chuckle when they received her Christmas card in late October or early November. Speaking of cards, there was a time when her oldest son, Ron was off at college and received a letter from his mother. Inside the letter was a self addressed stamped postcard that stated, "Write me sometime.". In their later years, Julia and Margie were roommates at Assisted Living for three years and took care of one another. The family would visit with her daily and on occasion bringing along the golden retriever, Simba. When her Alzheimer's became a problem, instead of putting her in a nursing home, the family chose to bring her home in order to care for her and make sure that she received the best possible care. Even though she had a lot of pain due to her arthritis, she never once complained. She was a pleasure to care for and even her caretakers fell in love with her, and thought of her as family, they even called her Grandma.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to Margie's caretakers; Deeanna and Kimberly "Kimmi", as well as, The Church Family at Highland Park Baptist Church for their endless love, support, and encouragement through the years of Margie's illness. As she went to be in the Presence of God, and was in route, she sent a couple of goodbye memories to family members. Her grandson Nick, whom she was very fond of, was watching an episode of I Love Lucy when she passed. Margie and Nick frequently watched I Love Lucy together. Her son, James received a goodbye in the form of the lights flickering immediately before receiving the phone call that she had passed. It was like a blink and a wink saying, "she was ok", and "I'll see you later and I'm on my way to be with my Savior, your late wife Mary, Nix, Julia, Andrew, and all of my family and friends. Remember that we are all citizens of an eternal Kingdom, just passing through this life for the blink of an eye in the big picture of eternity. Our all loving, all powerful, all forgiving and all knowing Heavenly Father will bring you all into His Presence in His own time. We will all be together forever, eventually. All my love, See you soon."
She is survived by her two sons, Ron (Barbara) and James (late wife Mary) Jenkins, three grandchildren, Nick, Ron Jr. (Karen) and Chris (Channing) Jenkins, two great-grandchildren, Liam (7) and Cooper (11) Jenkins, one brother, Cecil Thomas and one sister, Barbara Mickelson.
