Marlene Yerby Hutson, 78, of Moncks Corner, SC, peacefully passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025. Born on March 3, 1947, in Charleston, SC, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Marler Yerby, Jr. and Lois Mae Hazel Yerby.
A graduate of Stall High School in North Charleston, Marlene later spent time working as a substitute teacher, touching young lives with her kindness and patience. Yet, her greatest fulfillment came from the love she poured into her family. She will be remembered for her warm presence, quick humor, and the loving ways that made those around her feel cherished.
Marlene found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of life—days spent at the beach, laughter shared with her sisters, tending to her flower garden, and the companionship of her beloved dogs, Coco and Bear. Above all, she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Hutson (Julie) of Ridgeville, SC, and Mark Hutson (Wendy) of Moncks Corner, SC; seven grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank E. Hutson, Jr.; and her brother, Benjamin “Buttons” Marler Yerby III.
Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor during a visitation on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A chapel service will follow at noon, with burial to take place afterward at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
