Marvin Douglas Herndon

Relatives and friends of Marvin Herndon are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 1:00 PM, Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Beaufort National Cemetery.

Marvin was born in Charleston, South Carolina, on November 23, 1948. He was the son of William and Mary Herndon.

He attended Chicora High School and served in the Marine Corp, serving in Vietnam. He was a Charleston City Firefighter from 1970-1998. Marvin loved his wife and family and enjoyed taking them to Disney World when his children and grandchildren were growing up. His favorite pastime was watching any sport on television. He also loved his church and served in the clothes closet.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Katherine Herndon; children, Lisa Hunter (Nathaniel), Mitchell Herndon and Kari Herndon; grandchildren, William Noah O’Connor, Katelyn Thrower (Gabriel) and Douglas James O’Connor; great grandchildren, Henry, Monroe, & Waylon Thrower, and his brother, Francis Herndon. He is predeceased by his parents, Willam and Mary Herndon; brothers, Raymond Herndon, Bobby Herndon and Ernest Herndon and his sisters, Thelma Herndon, Myrtle Coutu, Hazel Calcagni, Maxine Helms and Linda Pack.
