On October 9, 2025, Melvin peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, joy, and gentle light that touched every heart around him.
Since January 2006, Melvin made his home at Secessionville CRCF with the Disabilities Board of Charleston County, where he became an irreplaceable part of the family. He also attended the Hope Center, where staff and peers alike adored his gentle spirit and warm smile. Melvin was deeply loved by all who knew him — his laughter could fill a room, and his presence brought peace and comfort to everyone nearby.
Melvin’s days were filled with simple joys. He loved sitting in his favorite chair, listening to television, rocking back and forth in quiet contentment, and listening to music that made him smile.
He especially enjoyed visits to the park, where he found joy in listening to the sounds of nature — the wind, the birds, the whisper of the trees. Melvin was known for his kindness, and his easy going nature. His gentle soul reminded others of the beauty found in stillness and simplicity.
Those who had the blessing of knowing Melvin will forever remember his contagious laugh, his bright smile, and his peaceful way of being. He taught us all what it means to live with grace and quiet strength.
Melvin is now sitting once more in his chair, watching over us from above, at peace and surrounded by light — ready for new things in the eternal festival of light.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his friends and the dedicated caregivers and peers who shared his journey at Secessionville CRCF and the Hope Center.
