Born in Monroe, Michigan, on August 4, 1960, he was the eldest son of Frank W. and Nancy A. (Jennings) Barron. Mike attended St. Mary Parish School and was a 1978 graduate of Monroe Catholic Central High School, Monroe, MI where he was a Varsity letter winner in wrestling. He attended Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ and Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, MI where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance. Additionally, he held a Bachelor of Science degree in Institutional Healthcare Administration from University of Toledo, Toledo, OH and a Master of Science degree in Healthcare Services Administration from Central Michigan University, Mt Pleasant, MI.
On May 6, 1999, he married the former Sharon Kaye Starcher in Mansfield, OH. They lived there until 2017 when they relocated to their current home in Mount Pleasant, SC. Mike is remembered as a man who loved deeply, listened fully, and lived with quiet purpose. Born and raised in Monroe, he appreciated many of the simpler things in this life not the least of which was his obsession with Monroe’s Originals hotdogs and the treasured memories of Christmases past filled with his mother’s cookies and her special holiday pie.
Sailing was his passion. His happiest days were spent on the Great Lakes either waterskiing or crewing aboard the racing yacht Jump, feeling the wind in his face and the camaraderie of teamwork. He was a fierce competitor, but always, a gentle soul. He loved people—not in a general sense, but in a specific way that made them feel truly seen. He was a listener, an encourager, and a defender of the underdog.
He adored his family with a depth that words can’t capture. As a husband, he loved totally and understood completely. He created a home grounded in trust, warmth, and quiet strength. His greatest hero was his father, Frank, whose example shaped his values. As he grew older, he came to deeply appreciate the quiet sacrifices his mother made from love—a love he carried with him always. His grandmother Leona not only expanded his palate but also held a treasured place in his heart.
He found peace and joy in the simple traditions of life—hunting at the family farm, telling stories, and watching others find their voice under his gentle encouragement. His legacy is one of love, humility, and humanity. He made others feel important, because to him, they were.
