

surrounded by her family. She was born in Charleston, SC on November 12, 1943. Her parents
were Sadie Elizabeth Thigpen Hart Herndon and James Grady Herndon both from Charleston
S.C..
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, James E White; Daughter Jeanette Perry
(Kenneth) of Laurel Hill, NC and Son Anthony White (Susan) of Summerville, SC; Grandchildren
Kristin Holmes (Logan) of Maysville, KY; Jonathan Perry (Ashley) of Laurel Hill, NC; Dylan White
of Summerville, SC and Zackary White of Summerville, SC. Three great grandchildren
Cassandra Perry, Arianna Perry and Victor Larger. Two sisters Nancy Moore of Yemassee, SC
and Sadie Mae Sprague (Fred) of Goose Creek, SC.
She was preceded in death by: Son, James Donny White, Daughter Mary Francis White, sisters;
Ethel Castellanos, Mildred Tisdale, Rhoda Haynes; Brothers: John Hart, Robert Hart, Jack Hart,
James (JG) Herndon, Errol (EJ) Herndon and Eugene Lane.
After Miriam and James moved to Johns Island, she became a member of Holy Spirit Catholic
Church. She was a part of the women’s group that helped to prepare the church before each
Sunday and they would also set up refreshments for after service. Miriam then became a bus
driver for Bishop England High School/Nativity School. Once her children were grown, she
attended college and got an associates degree. She then went to work at MUSC as a Patient
Representative. She later on moved to the MUSC College of Nursing where she worked as the
Administrative Assistant to the Dean. She and her family lived on Johns Island for many years
only to move to James Island for some amount of time. She and her husband moved to
Summerville and finally settled in Ravenel after purchasing property and building a new home
with her husband of 65 years.
A visitation will be held on Friday, May 24, 2024 from 6PM-8PM, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, located at 7113 Rivers Ave. North Charleston, SC 29406.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday morning, from 10AM-11AM, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home in the chapel. Miriam will be laid to rest at Carolina Memorial Gardens thereafter.
