

Nelson is survived by his children: Keith Yates (Cheri), Ricky Yates, Steve Yates (Dixie), and Kim Travis (Tryfon). He will also be lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Katie Wright, Kristie Campbell, Ahrean Bremer, Jonathan Yates, Shannon Yates, Heather Ridgeway, Joshua Yates, Chase Yates, Joseph Travis, and Lauren Owenby, Jamie Driggers, Joye Morrison, and Allan Lanier. Additionally, he is survived by 21 great-grandchildren. Nelson was preceded in death by his grandson, Eric Yates.
Mr. Nelson Yates served in the US Navy for over 20 years, retiring in 1973. Following his military service, he dedicated more than 20 years to civil service. Nelson also worked at Blue and Gold Auto Storage for many years, where he made lasting connections.
Nelson had a passion for fishing and hunting, which brought him joy throughout his life. He was an avid supporter of Goose Creek High School football and proudly cheered for his team as their number one fan. However, Nelson's greatest joy came from spending time with his family. He cherished moments shared with his loved ones, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by all who knew him.
Pallbearers for Nelson's service will include Keith Yates, Steve Yates, Tryfon Travis, Caleb Owenby, Joseph Travis, and Jonathan Yates.
Rowdy will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched. His legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories will forever be held close to their hearts.
A visitation will be held at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home for Nelson "Rowdy" on Saturday, November 18, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A celebration of life service will follow in the chapel at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The interment will take place thereafter at Carolina Memorial Gardens.
