Norma Joanne Burt Gussler, 81, a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother entered into Eternal Rest on Thursday, March 30, 2017. She was born May 18, 1935 in Newark, Ohio to Maurice and Audrey Burt. Bill, her husband and love of her life, passed away January 6, 2017. They had been married 61 years and she missed him dearly. Her heart was broken with his passing but they are now rejoicing together in heaven. Norma Joanne is a member of Trident Baptist Church where she loved her Seniors-on-the- Go group. Being a military wife is often referred to as the toughest job in the Navy and she lived it with dignity and grace. Norma was an active and supportive military wife for 20 years while Bill served in the Navy. They moved frequently living in Virginia, California, New York, Texas, Washington, and then SC where they decided to retire and raise their family. Norma was a patient and caring wife and mother. She was proud of both of her daughters, Catherine Domrose of Goose Creek and Debra Cole (John) of Summerville. She was the best grandmother in the world to Billy Domrose (Casey) of Massachusetts; Michelle Surbaugh of Ohio; Rhynne Owens (Thomas) of Summerville; Keree Domrose of Goose Creek; and Courtney Cole of Summerville. Norma also had 11 great-grandchildren whom she loved with all her heart. Norma is retired from the Berkeley County School District after serving as Bus Driver, Secretary, Attendance Clerk, and Bus Supervisor. Everyone loved Norma Joanne and her bubbly attitude. She was such a wonderful mother, Catherine and Debra had to share her with the many people who called her “Mama Gus.” She will be sadly missed by many.
