Patricia Flynn Hankins, wife of the late Robert A. Hankins, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2024 at the age of 77 under the care of Summerville Lowcountry Community Hospice House. Born on February 9, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina to Marland Flynn and Shirley Davis Flynn Graham, she graduated from Chicora High School in 1965 where she met the love of her life and husband of 41 years, Bobby.
Pat, as she was called by all of her friends, was a long-time citizen of Hanahan, SC where she raised her family of three girls: Robin H. McInnis (Randy) of Tega Cay, SC; Sharon H. McCuen (Robby) of Charleston, SC; and Angela H. Martin (Travis) of Goose Creek, SC. Her grandchildren loved her greatly and will miss her: William (Will) McInnis, Robert (Alex) McInnis, Olivia McInnis, Robert (Bobby) McCuen, Clara Grace (Claire) Martin, and Davis Martin. Also living is her sister-in-law, Sarah H. Flynn of Fountain Inn, South Carolina, brother-in-law Benjamin (Linda) Hankins of Early Branch, South Carolina, and many extended family including cousins, nephews, and nieces.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and step-father, Robert L. Graham of Goose Creek, two brothers—M. Alfred Flynn of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Michael C. Flynn of Goose Creek, and a sister-in-law, Kay Flynn of Ardmore, Oklahoma.
At the age of 24, Pat became a follower of Christ while attending Vacation Bible School (VBS) with her oldest daughter at Ferndale Baptist Church in North Charleston, SC. With the influence and encouragement of her church family, she faithfully studied the Bible before becoming a teacher of preschool VBS children, junior-aged Training Union students, and the “Older” lady’s class. She remained a member of Ferndale Baptist while the church transitioned to Foster Creek Baptist Church in Hanahan, but in just the last year she joined Northside Baptist Church to attend with her daughter’s family.
Pat always loved to entertain others and through the years the family hosted many pastors, missionaries, student groups, and friends for dinner. A highlight for Bobby and Pat included retreats at the Wild’s Christian Camp and trips that were planned for Ferndale’s Young at Heart group. She was a faithful servant to others and to our Lord who loved her family and friends.
Services will be held at Carolina Funeral Home & Memorial Gardens, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC, on Friday, April 12, 2024. The visitation will begin at 12 noon followed by the service in the chapel at 1:30 and then the internment. Pastors Jonathan Cresswell, Mike Betancourt, and Calvin Walden will be officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to the Wilds Christian Camp, 1000 Wilds Ridge Rd, Brevard, NC 28712 or the Summerville Lowcountry Community Hospice House, 374 Myers Rd, Summerville, SC 29486. The family wishes to thank the many friends who visited and sent cards while Mom tried to recover these last few months. The care and love from the nurses and CNAs at the Hospice House can never be repaid and will always be remembered.
Matthew 25:23
“Well done, good and faithful servant; thou hast been faithful over a few things,
I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”
