Peggie Bennett HANAHAN – Peggie Iris Lackey Bennett, 83 wife of Samuel E. Bennett, Sr. of Hanahan passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018. She was born in Guilford County, NC on September 15, 1935, daughter of the late Jetter Butler Lackey, Sr. and Lenis Susan Bowles Lackey.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Betty Elizabeth Lackey Strickland, and both of her brothers, J. B. Lackey, Jr. and Raeford B. Lackey. She graduated from Laurinburg (NC) High School and became a wife, homemaker, and mother of four. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church, the UMW, and she served on Aldersgate’s Altar Guild. Before retirement, Peggie enjoyed her work in the Museum Shop at Middleton Place. She is survived by her husband of 65 years; two daughters: Samuela Kay Bennett Lawhon and Rita Sue Bennett, of Hanahan; two sons: Samuel E. Bennett, Jr. (Laurie) of Hanahan, and Joel Hemingway Bennett (Deana) of Summerville; two granddaughters, seven grandsons, five great-granddaughters, and four great-grandsons. The funeral service will be held in the chapel at Carolina Memorial Gardens, on Thursday, January 3 at 12:00 noon. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. Interment follows at Carolina. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Aldersgate United Methodist Church at 1444 Remount Road, N. Charleston, SC 29406 or the Charleston Animal Society at 2455 Remount Road, N. Charleston, SC 29406.
