Richard (Dick) C. Binz of North Charleston, SC passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on May 12, 2017. Dick was born January 5, 1933, in Pittsburgh, PA. He had a love for music evident in a lifetime of church choir leadership and participation. After graduating high school in 1953, he served 11 years (3 years active) in the US Army. He served as past commander of West View VFW Post 2754 and was a lifetime member of the Summerville Post 3433. In 1995, he retired after 25 years of service as an electrical engineer with Bayer Corporation. Dick's greatest love was his wife of 59 years, Mary, (formally Mary Ellen Joyce of County Galway, Ireland) and his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed playing the organ, was an avid golfer and a loyal Steelers fan. Dick also had a strong belief in God and Jesus guided him all his days. In addition to his wife, Mary, Dick is survived by three daughters and two sons: Debra Barber and her husband Fred of Seattle and their children Jacob, Rosalyn (Eli Tilson), Daniella and Rebekah; Patrick Binz and his wife Mary of Summerville and their children Jennifer (Greg Horres) and Michael; Irene Hoskins and her husband Jerry of Baytown, TX and their children Kelli (Chris Hebrank) and Benjamin; Joseph Binz and his wife Chrissy of Charleston and their children Joey and Ashleigh Anne; and Maura Jones and her husband David of Dallas and their child James. He is also survived by 12 great grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Charles J. and Irene (Bolick) Binz, his brothers William V. Binz and Robert D. Binz. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to American Cancer Society or St. John's Catholic Church in Summerville. Visiting hours at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home will be Monday 5-7 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John's Catholic Church 28 Sumter Ave, Summerville, Tuesday 11 am. Entombment to follow at Carolina Memorial Park.
