Robert Clair Markle, 78 of Ladson died Thursday morning in a local hospital. Mr. Markle was a 20-year veteran in the US Navy serving in the submarine fleet and retiring from the USS James Madison in 1977. He went on to work as a Forklift Specialist for the remainder of his career retiring in 2002 from Gregory Poole Equipment Company. Mr. Markle was a member of the American Legion Post 166, the Fleet Reserve Association #269, and a life member of the VFW Ladson. He is best known by his family as "Buddy", "Dad" or "Pap-Pap". His friends knew him as "Bob"
Mr. Markle is survived by his Sister, Sue Ann Brown (John) of Canonsburg, PA. He is predeceased by his Father, Robert John Markle, his Mother, Claire Dayton Markle, his Brother, Ronald Markle and his Granddaughter, Tamara Suzanne Starnes. Surviving are his children, Anita Markle Wright (Bryan) of Goose Creek, SC, Robert Markle (Denise) of Ten Mile, TN, Brenda L. Kraus of Ladson, SC, James A Markle of Alachua, FL, and Christopher N Markle (Tammy) of Rural Retreat, VA. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, Tara, David, Robert, Ryan, Bradley, Daryl, James, Morgan, Mason, Jourdan (Taco), Simon (Butch), Matthew (Shaker) and Daniel.
Mr. Markle loved to play the guitar and follow the local jam sessions. He had a passion for the Steelers and his beloved Atlanta Braves. He is known for saying "Just another chapter in my book" when referring to various unscrupulous/notorious events throughout his life. This is the final chapter - The End. "Buddy" the son and brother, "Dad" the father and friend and Pap-Pap will be sorely missed.
A Two Bell Ceremony in memory of Bob will be held Saturday, August 11, 2018 at 1:00 pm. at the Fleet Reserve Association, 99 Wisteria Road Goose Creek. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
