Robert Lee Trivett

Arrangements for burial at the Johnson City, TN Veterans Cemetery will be made at a later date.

He was born in Cranberry, NC but called Elk Park his home. Bob was one of eight children born to Walter Raleigh and Hattie Oaks Trivett. He joined the Navy in 1955 and married Hazel Powell in 1958. Bob toured the world but never forgot his family or his roots. He was stationed in Charleston, SC in 1969 and raised his family there. He rose to the rank of Senior Chief. Bob retired from the Navy in 1976 and shortly after, began his second career as a vocational teacher at Oakley Vocational Center. Bob taught pipefitting for 3 years and welding for 20 years. He helped many grow to be productive citizens. He then had a brief stint as a long-distance truck driver with many interesting stories along the way.

His garage was always open to anyone who needed help or sought a friend. Bob never met a stranger, always asking who are your kin. He began spending his summers in Roan Mountain, Tennessee and quickly became a beloved member of the community. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, sightseeing, yard sales and visiting with friends and family. He loved to tell tales of his adventures - many of which included his Brother-in-Law and best friend Roy (RC) Powell. He was loved by all who knew him.

He will be missed by his wife Hazel; his daughters, Janet Trivett (Danny Carroll) and Teresa Starnes (Jim Starnes); two grandchildren, Sarah Starnes (Chris Schillinger), and James Starnes (Victoria Quinones); three sisters, Delores (Bill) Durham, Sue Laws and Betty Jean Winters, as well as many extended family members. He was preceded in death by brothers, James Trivett and Raymond Trivett and sisters Joyce Parlier and Cleo Wooten.

The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
