On Tuesday, June 5, 2019, Ruby Mae Gregory entered into her final rest in Summerville, South Carolina. She was born January 7, 1953 in the quiet, small town of Ayden, North Carolina to her late parents James Hamm and Virginia MacLawhorn Garris.
She spent most of her life in the greater area of Charleston, South Carolina, growing up in the Old Village neighborhood of Mount Pleasant. She graduated from Moultrie High School in 1971 and later moved to Summerville where she went on to raise her beloved family. Ruby was a devoted mother to her two children, and a loving and faithful wife to her husband to whom she was married for thirty-three wonderful years. She is remembered by most as a strong and fiercely independent woman capable of overcoming any challenge she encountered. She was a source of strength and wisdom for those lucky enough to truly know her, and her humor was always infectious. She will be greatly missed by her surviving friends and loved ones, but there is peace in knowing that she is with the Lord her God. She possessed an unshakable faith in the saving grace of Jesus Christ and the promise of eternal life in heaven.
Ruby is survived by her husband John C. Gregory, Jr., her son Kenneth Wade Gregory and his wife Breanna Gregory, daughter Ashley Gregory Surles and her husband Daniel Britt Surles, her beloved grandson James Britt Surles and her sister Ruth Chavis. She is predeceased by her father James Hamm, her mother Virginia Garris, and her step-father David Garris.
The family invites all of Ruby's friends, family, and colleagues to attend her memorial service on Sunday, June 10 at 2 pm Carolina Memorial Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1 pm to 2 pm at the funeral home.
Arrangements provided by CAROLINA MEMORIAL PARK, FUNERALS and CREMATIONS, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. Online condolences may be made to the family at www.carolinamemorial.com.
