Russell Wayne Lindfors Sr., 80, of Summerville, passed away Saturday, May 16, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones. Wayne was born to Frank and Wahneta Lindfors on April 18, 1946, in Jacksonville, and spent most of his life in South Carolina.
Wayne proudly served in the Army National Guard for more than twenty years, dedicating his life to his country. After returning home, Wayne — affectionately known as “Lumpy” by his friends — went to work for MeadWestvaco, where he worked for another twenty-plus years. Throughout the years, Wayne was a part of many clubs and organizations, including Local 470 Pipe Fitters Union, Four Holes Hunting Club, Shingler Hunting Club, and Camp Hall.
Wayne was an avid outdoorsman who loved dog driving, turkey hunting, dove hunting, and coon hunting. He also enjoyed welding, smoking BBQ, and spending every possible moment with his family.
Wayne loved nothing more than his wife, Sharon, with whom he shared 57 wonderful years of marriage. Rusty and Frank were the light of his life, and that light only grew brighter with each grandchild and great-grandchild.
Wayne never met a stranger. To know him was to love him.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to all those who have offered condolences and support during this difficult time. Your kindness has been a great source of comfort. Wayne will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered by his family and friends.
Those who wish to pay their respects are welcome to visit the mausoleum at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, where his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
Wayne is survived by his children, Rusty and Kim Lindfors, and Frankie and Lori Lindfors; grandchildren: Sarah Lindfors, Savannah and Ben Holmes, Katie Lindfors, Gracie Lindfors, Emily Lindfors, Lauren Lindfors, Stella Lindfors, and Gibson Lindfors; great-grandchildren: Hayden and Aubrey McDonald; siblings: Fonda New, Mary Williamson, Ralph Lindfors, and their families.
Wayne was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Sharon Lindfors; his mother, Wahneta Padgett; his father, Frank Marstellar Jr.; and his great-grandson, Michael McDonald Jr.
A visitation for family and friends to gather and share memories will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life service from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Wayne's honor to Gentiva Hospice.
