Born in Weymouth, MA on September 27, 1930, Ruth came from a large family of three sisters and four brothers. The United States was experiencing the early economic impacts of the Great Depression, and Mickey mouse made his first appearance in comic form. Her life was full of life’s drama, the joy, and sadness of her times... She had a cast on her leg when World War II was in full swing, and her brothers enlisted. She learned how to be independent at an early age, and her spirit was never broken. Ruth's good humor remained intact despite what life placed in her path. Major milestones in U.S. history from 1930 to 2026 span economic crises, world wars, civil rights movements, and technological shifts.
Ruth's schooling was interrupted before she entered high school because she had to seek employment at an early age. Years later in 1978 she achieved her goal of graduating from Goose Creek High School. A very proud moment for Ruth.
When she was in her young teens, Ruth met her future husband, Earl F. Stansbury, and later married him in her early twenties. They soon had three children. They were a military family, and Ruth made traveling an adventure for her young children. Ruth and Earl settled in Goose Creek, SC after Earl retired from a career in the Navy.
Above all, Ruth was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, friend, and was fondly known as NaNa Banana to her grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Her good qualities were many... She was dependable, loyal, loving, supportive, understanding, firm, fair, and most of all... FUN. Ruth belonged to several bowling leagues, worked at the Navy Exchange, volunteered at different organizations, was a member of Crowfield Babtist Church, and knitted hats for the merchant marines.
Ruth is survived by her three children, Karen Stansbury Delk (Terry), Sam Stansbury Snyder (Gary) and Earl D. Stansbury (Lynna); four grandchildren, Amanda Turner (Abe), Michelle Hopler, Dylan Stansbury (Sierra) and Ian Stansbury; four great-grandchildren, Theo Turner, Hope Turner, Violet Stansbury and Meadow Stansbury; her one surviving younger sister, Judy Dow, her younger brother, James Webb, along with extended family, Al Stansbury, Alan Stansbury, Jr., Marti Stansbury, Pat DeLeone, and other family members, including Janice Moore and Denise Bounds. She was predeceased by her husband, Earl F. Stansbury.
Arrangements by CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406.
