Shirley served on Active Duty in the United States Air Force for 4 years and then went on to work in Civil Service, finally retiring after 29 years of faithful service from the Navy Shipyard in Charleston. As she traveled across this great country, Shirley became involved in several social groups and clubs. An Avid bowler, she won several state and national titles both as team and individual roller. Shirley was an Inaugural member of the Woman’s Veteran Memorial Group. However, Shirley’s greatest joy was being a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She served at all levels within the state and was honored to be elected Worthy Grand Matron of South Carolina, 2000-2001. She loved her sisters and brothers and took great pride in performing the work of The Order to the best of her ability. Her peanut butter fudge and lace cookies were her most famous contributions to bake sales and gatherings. She will be dearly missed.
Shirley is survived by her precious daughters Nancy Osborne, Gale Rickert, and Debbie Cook.
Shirley is preceded in death by her beloved husband Maxie L. Shipp; two sons Timothy and Steven Shipp; and one brother.
There will be a visitation held for Shirley on Sunday April 24, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home at 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, South Carolina, 29406. A chapel service with military honors and an Eastern Star ceremony will follow at 12:00 p.m.
