

Staff Sergeant (Ret.) Stacey Bernard Upshaw I was born on March 2, 1960, in Columbus, to Angeline Dawkins and the late Dennis Upshaw, Jr. On Sunday, May 17, 2026, he peacefully departed this life at the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center in Charleston.
Visitation will be held at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, US, on May 26, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will be held at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, US, on May 27, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
A proud graduate of Hardaway High School, Stacey answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Air Force. Through dedication, discipline, and unwavering commitment, he built a distinguished military career and retired honorably with the rank of Staff Sergeant (SSgt). His leadership, integrity, and service left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.
Stacey was preceded in death by his father, Dennis Upshaw, Jr; his maternal grandparents, Eddie Mae Johnson and Mercy Dawkins; his paternal grandparents, Marie Upshaw and Dennis Upshaw, Sr.; his sister, Mae Dean Crowell; and his nephew, Kenya Dawkins.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories, his beloved sons, Stacey B. Upshaw II and Sterling Upshaw; his former wife and devoted best friend, Stephanie Upshaw, his loving mother, Angeline Dawkins; his loyal brother, Charles (Lisa) Riley; his treasured sister, Tamara Dawkins. His legacy lives on through his beloved grandchildren, Davion Brown, Stashaunne Upshaw, and Sha’Maya Upshaw; a special niece Sonya Rolle as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Stacey will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, and the deep love he had for his family and friends. He was especially known for his quick wit and the joy he brought to those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his legacy of service, love, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff of the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center for the compassionate care and support provided to Stacey throughout the years.
