Steve was born on February 11, 1954, in St. Louis Missouri to Geraldine Marsh and Mervil Curry He was a remarkable Navy veteran whose life was built on service, resilience, and love. He had a gift for making people feel protected and supported. Whether offering advice, helping solve a problem, or simply standing beside someone in silence, he brought peace and reassurance.
As a veteran of the U.S Navy, Dad served his country with honor and integrity. After his military career, he continued to offer his service and dedication to the city of Charleston, dedicating many years to inspiring everyone he met on a daily basis.
His family was always one of his greatest priorities. Dad gave so much of himself to make sure those he loved, felt safe, supported, and remembered. His greatest love was to be a father, grandfather and now a great grandfather. He never met a stranger and was not afraid to teach everyone he encountered that love is often shown in practical ways, through presence, sacrifice, and reliability. Dad also lived with quiet humility. Despite his accomplishments and service, he never sought praise. He simply believed in doing what was right and helping where he could. He left behind many loved ones who will carry his lessons and love with them always. Though he is gone from our sight, he will remain part of our hearts and every family tradition, every shared story, and every act of kindness inspired by his example. Dad had a way of making ordinary moments
meaningful. Family holidays, weekend projects, community events, and simple evenings spent talking became memories that his loved ones will treasure forever. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by friends and family. He faced life’s challenges with courage and patience, teaching us that service does not end when the uniform comes off. It continues in how we care for others, how we lead, and how we love. Steve is preceded in death by a brother and a sister along with his parents. Dad is survived by many family, friends, and fellow veterans who will continue to honor his life and carry forward his example.
Dad will be honored with full military honors on August 29, 2026, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406 at 11am. Visitation and light refreshments will follow the service.
