Tanny Matthews

A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm, on Sunday, October 18, 2026, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 108 Seewee Drive, Goose Creek, SC 29445.

Tanny Matthews was born October 25, 1952, in Charleston, SC, the son of Althair Matthews and Mazie Isabell King Matthews.

He was educated in the Charleston County Public School system and later attended Denmark Technical College to study as an architectural draftsman.

Tanny was baptized on June 6, 1981 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

He married Mary Louise Hutchinson on May 14, 1977, in Charleston, SC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Althair Matthews and Mazie Isabell Matthews; his brothers, James Matthews, Don Matthew Sr., Cecil Matthews, and Billy Matthews.

Tanny is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Mary Louise Matthews; Dwayne (Lorena) Matthews, Lauren Matthews, and Lorna Matthews; his siblings, Ophelia M. Gordon, Deloris (Theopolus) M. Bligen, John L. Matthews, Hazel Matthews-Forte, Holly (Thomas) M. Trimble; a spiritual daughter, Angela Washington; and a host of additional family members and friends to cherish his memories.
