

Thomas Calvin Barnette, 88, of Charleston, passed away peacefully at home on August 15, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of Margaret “Libby” K. Barnette. Born on January 31, 1938, in Russellville, SC, Thomas was the son of the late Sarah A. Brinkley.
Relatives and friends of Thomas Barnette are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 2:00 PM, Friday, August 21, 2026, at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until the time of service. Guests are invited to a reception in the funeral home event center following the burial. Flowers will be accepted, or memorial contributions may be made to Three Rivers Outreach, P.O. Box 1658, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29465.
After graduating from Chicora High School in 1956, Thomas began a long career with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1993 as postmaster of Johns Island, SC. He served in the South Carolina National Guard from 1956 to 1962. In retirement, Thomas volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, traveled extensively, and enjoyed dancing with Libby.
Thomas is survived by his wife of 68 years, Libby Kincaid Barnette; three daughters, Sara B. Cox (Russell) of Charleston, SC, Stacy B. Morgan (Barry) of Lexington, SC, and Shawn B. DuPre (Sonny) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; six grandchildren: Wyatt Diggs (Erica), Taylor Diggs, Madeline Hall (Justin), Elaina Morgan, Gervais DuPre (Carly), and Hamlin DuPre, two step grandchildren: Renee Stratton (Mike), April Glover (Neil). He was delighted by his two great-grandsons and 4 step great grandchildren and looked forward to the imminent birth of two more great-grandchildren. Thomas is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Barnette and Sandra B. Jones, as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews and loving sisters and brothers-in laws. He was predeceased by his sister, Ann Brinkley Bell.
A man of great integrity, Thomas was a supporter, protector, and guiding presence to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed.
