

Thomas William Mitchum Sr., 77, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away on June 27, 2026. Born on September 1, 1948, in Charleston, he was the eldest son of Thomas Duke Mitchum and Margarete E. Bessinger Mitchum.
Tommy is survived by his four children, Thomas Mitchum Jr., Timothy Mitchum Sr., Melody Rowland, and Christine Mitchum; his eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; his three brothers, Don Mitchum, Del Mitchum, and Jeff Mitchum; and his loving wife of 21 years, Angie "Joy" Mitchum.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Sandra Morris; and his son, Robert Mitchum.
Tommy dedicated much of his career to working as an inspector at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and the Naval Weapons Station. He was a hardworking man who took pride in his work and in providing for his family.
Outside of work, Tommy enjoyed spending time with friends and could often be found at one of the local bars, where he never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and enjoyed sharing stories and laughter with both old friends and new.
In his younger years, Tommy spent many days working on a shrimp boat, an experience that deepened his lifelong love of the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who found peace on the water and in the woods.
One of Tommy's greatest qualities was his willingness to help others. Whether someone needed help fixing a car, making home repairs, or simply needed a little financial assistance, he never hesitated to lend a hand. He generously gave his time and was always there for those who needed him.
Tommy will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, generous heart, unwavering determination, and ability to make friends wherever he went. His kindness, sense of humor, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched
A visitation will be held at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, US, on July 2, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Funeral Service will take place at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, US, on July 3, 2026, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
A Committal Service will be held at Carolina Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29406, US, on July 3, 2026, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
