

Winifred Mae Wareheim Conner passed away peacefully at White Oak Manor in Charleston, SC, on September 28, 2026. The only child of Rev. Karl H. and Mae Foy Wareheim, she was born in her grandparents’ home in Baltimore City, MD, on May 27, 1922. Growing up, she lived in Maryland, Delaware, and Pennsylvania as her father was transferred to different churches.
She was a 1939 graduate of Western High School in Baltimore and a 1943 graduate of Western Maryland College (now McDaniel College). From 1965- 1984, she taught Home Economics at North Carroll High School. In all, she taught for 24 years.
In 1946, she met and married her husband, James C. A. Conner. He predeceased her in 1988. They had two daughters, Tricia Holt of South Carolina and Amy Townsend (Dale) of Tennessee.
Having joined the Methodist Church when she was 8, she was always an active member, most recently of North Charleston United Methodist Church. She was a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant in Westminster and the Carroll County Historical Society.
She enjoyed traveling with friends and family. An expert seamstress, she used her talents to make clothes for her family and create items that she donated to charitable projects. She loved to garden and for many years had a large flower and vegetable garden.
In addition to her daughters, she is survived by a granddaughter, Suzi (John); 3 great-grandchildren, Loki (Theodora), Persephone, and Azreal; and a special friend, Diane. She is also survived by several step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service for Winifred will be held at a later date at North Charleston United Methodist Church.
