      I am grateful to Cora Alfelor.  She was my mentor when I started working in
a program for developmentally challenged adults.  She was also my friend. She was dedicated in her work 
and took time to share and teach 
about developmental disabilities. 

           It was a moment of discovery 
  for me, an awakening into the 
  world of developmentally challenged
  people. 

           Her love for these people is 
   something that I highly value 
   and cherish. 

             These memories will always 
    remain in my heart forever. 

       

       

        

Cora embodied her name - meaning heart, love.  She did everything with all her heart.  She was a vivacious, fun loving,, warm, compassionate, fun to be with. She worked with a passion for 20some yrs with people with developmental disabilities & they loved her back.  She brought them on outings to museums, parks, all over Los Angeles & Orange County, once even to a ribbon cutting ceremony with the mayor of LA.   She worked with a few elderly too where she brought them out of their gloomy existence of waiting for their turn to looking forward to waking up each morning to be in the company of the ever vibrant Cora.
She loved music and played the piano and dance as well.  She incorporated music in her care for the clients & residents bringing them joy.  She relished coming to concerts and the opera with me.  In turn, she liked to make me laugh, seeing that I tended to be serious, with her numerous stories.  Her friends liked to take her to round trips to Vegas so they wouldn’t fall asleep driving.  
To the people with developmental disabilities & the elderly whose lives she helped transform, Cora was a ray of sunshine.  To us, her friends & the people who worked alongside her, Cora will be in our hearts forever. 

We will miss you Tita Azon.  May you Rest In Peace 🙏🙏
