She was born in Abilene, Kansas on September 28, 1925 to Daniel Lutellis Bogart and Mary Loretta Sanders Bogart. She was their fourth child.
As a young waitress in Kansas she served a handsome Navy seaman named Phillip Gold who swept her off her feet with daily lunches and dime tips. After several dates Phil asked her father for her hand in marriage. The two wed in 1943. Their first child, Phillip D. Gold, {Skip} was born in Kansas City, Missouri. The family soon moved to California where Phil's parents, Louis Gold Bell and Jeannette Jones Bell, and brothers, Franklin Gold and Charles Gold, lived in Los Angeles. For Phil and Darlene a second son, Louis R. {Rick} was born about 2 years later, followed by a 3rd son, Frederick A. {Fred or John}. In 1950 the family bought a home at 1829 N. Naomi Street in Burbank and at the end of that year welcomed their daughter Linda Darlene into the fold. A little over 2 years later their last baby, another boy, Preston L. Gold was born. After 27 years of marriage Phil sadly passed away from Pancreatic cancer on June 11, 1970. Living on Naomi Street was amazing and the neighbors were as close as family. So many have remained friends for all these years.
Darlene's favorite job was that of a mother and homemaker. She loved her family dearly and until the age of 86 she cooked and hosted Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners in her home for as many of the family that were able to be there. At least 3 tables were surrounded by family members each holiday.
Mom attended Parents Without Partners and found another companion, Dan Ruhley, with whom she enjoyed buying, fixing up, renting and eventually selling several houses, etc. Dan and Mom traveled all over the world together. At one point, when asked where'd she'd traveled to, she replied, "It would be easier if you asked where we haven't been". Isn't that great!!! After about 27 years together Dan Ruhley sadly passed away.
Darlene was predeceased by her parents, her two brothers, Eugene Bogart and Daniel Bogart, her sister, Virginia Smith Tenney, a grandson, Kenneth Taylor, a niece, Carol Bogart Boyles and 2 nephews Billy Eugene and Jan Harry Gold. Please forgive us if anyone has been omitted.
She is survived by all 5 of her children, 11 grandchildren; Rodney, Bonnie, Scott, April, James, Phillip, Lori, Derek, Jeffrey, Michael and Bill, and 19 great-grandchildren: Victoria, Eric, Christian, Alexis, Jeremy, James, Daniel, JoAnna, Alicia, Justin, Crystal, Tabitha,Tara, Emily, Sarah, Jacob, Sydney, Lukas and Niklas.
