He lost his father when he was a young boy and was raised by his older brothers, Martinano and Febronio while his older sisters, Francisca, Agripina, and Petra nurtured his growth. He too became a caring older brother to his younger sister Guadalupe. He eventually came to the United States where he proved to be a hard worker working many jobs that included working the fields in the San Joaquin Valley and two Railroad companies. It was on one of his trips back to Mexico to visit the land that he loved, su Mexico lindo y querido, that he fell in love with Maria, aka Chayo. Now this was a grand love, because it was not until he was in his early 50’s that he married his true love. He clearly was a patient man who knew what he wanted in life and wouldn’t settle for anything less than the best.
Along with being a loving Husband, Father, grandfather and brother, he was an awesome uncle, cousin, friend, and mentor. Many people would say that he was a good listener who would mentor with his stories. He had a good sense of humor and shared dichos. He enjoyed novelas, music and food, especially his cajeta. His smile was contagious, his abrazos eran fuertes y no te dejaban respirar. But I will miss those bear hugs the most.
The thing he valued the most was spending time with his family. And that is why we are here today. Even if you were a visitor, a friend, or a friend of a friend, he made you feel like you were family and nothing less. No matter who you were, if you walked into his house he would be sure to ask, "ya comiste?" and make you feel right at home.
In some way or form he has touched our lives to make our lives better. He will live in his children and grandchildren. Jaime has inherited his caring sense of humor, Martha has inherited his caring nurturing personality, and Miguel Angel has inherited the passion for life and his dancing moves. Let us try to understand that he has finally gone home to our creator where Jesus embraced him with open arms. He continues to be surrounded with family as he always preferred it.
