I am so sorry for your loss. I came to Tres only recently but his work is beautiful and he was obviously a kind, talented and well-loved human being.

Here is a photo of Tres in New York in 2004. It was such an exciting time for us, pretty new to the city and the beginning of Psychic Ills. Tres was always so precocious, hardworking, always interested in learning and expanding especially when it came to music, film and art. ❤️ 

Tres and I met working at a strange record/video/porn shop on Melrose Ave in Los Angeles in 2000. We scheduled it so we were always together on a shift. Two kids in our early 20s, hailing from Dallas, tripping out on Hollyweird, swapping records, books, and movies. We lost touch when we both drifted away from that job. I soon moved to San Francisco and one day about three years later I very randomly ran into he and Liz one morning after parking my work truck. About a year later I discovered a record on a blog and liked it enough to purchase. I read the credits and to my pleasant surprise there was the name Tres Warren. I had memorized his old yahoo email so we totally reconnected and the band would start staying at my house when they would pass through town. A couple of years later I would find myself moving to New York to be in the band for a couple of spells. You share a birthday with my mom. I still feel connected to you. I was just saying that I can’t believe you’re not here. Like someone else has mentioned- my volume was not too high on stage!!! haha love you man. I missed you even before you departed. Not sure that I ever expressed it properly, but thank you. When I play Pandit, I can’t not play him for you

First memory that comes to mind is around 1991, pulling out your dad’s record collection from the 60s and wondering how people made such cool music. Glad you chased life and so sorry to see you go. God bless your family and friends.

Tres, I say, you really need to work on your exits. Being such a gentleman, I am sure your mother must have taught you better.

Those letters and records we sent across oceans and continents before I moved onto your street, those rugby games I talked you through before you offered short histories of American folk, that Thanksgiving when you rightly refused to join us splayed on the ice rink, the rounds of flat draft beer that disappeared between arguments over politics and the jukebox, the hours of long peaceful drones we sounded out through apartment windows and jazz club doors, those cheap darts we bought which I never quite learnt to throw with any amount of flair, the packs of cigarettes we burnt each weekend while watching thunderous drum circles form from our park bench in the shade, and those phone calls where we both dreamed of new lives in California. 

Tres, you were warm, generous and kind, in ways people like me hardly deserve. This world would have been so much more beautiful and rich if graced with your spirit for even just a while longer. 

My love truly goes out to your family and friends here.

I don’t even know where to start. First off, my most sincere and deepest of condolences to you all. Tres is an incredibly special man with so many extraordinary traits. He  has positively impacted my life in so many ways. I met him in 2006 or 2007 as we were introduced through mutual friends. From that day on I admired everything about him. His musicianship. His outlook on life. His grace. The way he conducted himself. So much honor and integrity. Everything about him inspired and influenced me. We messaged each other often to discuss everything from baseball cults to guitar tone. I was once out on tour and not feeling well about how anything was going and he sent me some very genuine and kind words that truly resonated with me and  kept me going. He also sent me a Blaze Foley track that just hit the right spot. His wisdom and insight are incredible. He has that extraordinary way of saying exactly what you needed to hear. Ultimately though, my favorite memories are of us betting on Packers/Cowboys games (me being from Wisconsin and he from Texas).  The wager was always a record. In the most recent case, it was a highly sought after Steve Young LP. The Packers won (again) but between our schedules we just never hashed out getting the record sent. He held that Steve Young record in such high regard, much like I hold him, and it will always be synonymous with our discussions and bet making. I’m just waiting for the right moment to finally pick it up because I know how significant of a moment it will be for me. Tres is an incredible man and we are all so lucky to have had him in our lives for the time that we did. Sending all of my love to you all. - Andrew 

Tres was my best friend in the early 2000's.  For a few years we did everything together, played music constantly, listened to music constantly, talked about music constantly.  
We almost died together in a van driving through Missouri one night around 2004 or 5.  There were crazy rains and lighting everywhere.  We pulled off the highway to get gas and heard air-raid sirens blaring through the little truck-stop town.  The gas station attendant wouldn't sell us gas, but she did sell us some beer, then she sent us to an underground shelter just up the road.  We were a pretty good sight walking into the shelter, long-haired boys, dressed funny, probably stunk, but we shared the beer and Tres made friends with everyone.   After an hour of clear skies, we got the OK to drive again and got back in the van.  I dozed off and about 1 hour later, Tres shook me awake because the rain and lighting had surrounded us again.  Seconds later it was like we got hit by a freight train.  We never saw the funnel cloud, but it sounded like being inside a vacuum cleaner, bright as daylight, van shaking like mad, rocking left and right, hale slamming like machine gun fire.  In reality, it was probably only 10 seconds time, but it's hours in my mind.  We drove the rest of the night in shock and fear.  In the morning, Tres took us to a canyon near the Oklahoma/Texas border that he had visited as a kid, I can't remember the name of it.  It was so beautiful, and we sat there in silence for an hour watching the sunrise, happy to be alive.  This is how I'll remember Tres.  Fun, a little stormy, my best friend.   I love you brother.  I'm happy to have had the time with you that I did, and I'm so sorry to have lost touch with you over the past few years.  Rest well.

One of the first impressions I recall of Tres when I first had the pleasure of meeting him and Elizabeth several years back in my studio, was a certain quality in his eyes that seemed to have a thousand years of stories to tell. He was kind, attentive and polite, regal. He had a real coolness and an ease in the way he sussed out a situation,  when I look back, every time we talked he gave love, his full attention, insight, words of wisdom or a great film recommendation. In my eyes he lived in the moment and in the present and didn't let any encounter pass without making an impact on me.  Tres was the kind of soul that could change your life from a single encounter, this earth became lumens duller after he left, but the night sky is bright with his light. I'm eternally grateful for the opportunity to know him and call him my friend.

     I met Tres touring with Mazzy Star, back in 2012.  Tres Warren was a true, genuine, gentleman upon meeting the very first time. We became friends on that tour, I recall backstage one night, learning Liz was from Texas, as well as Tres. I was so happy to be with fellow Texans and instantly closer because of it. Tres was the epitome of what it meant to be a Texan. He was kind, engaging, down to earth and caring. He gifted Hope and I a Roy Orbison c.d. he had picked up on the road, asking  for us to enjoy the drive, with his music. So thoughtful and sweet. 
     He took the time to call after the tour numerous times, he continued to check in on me over the years and he would send me records, just cuz. He gave me advice like a big brother would, although he was younger than I, he was wiser, it was for sure. I appreciated it and had the chance to tell him so, just before his passing. He humbly said there was no reason to thank him,... he’ll never know how he helped me be a better person, well maybe now he will... I will miss him dearly., until we meet again, that is. 
I am happy to now know both our parents live in the same town in Texas, such a small world. 

Tres, if you can hear me, you’ll never be forgotten.... not a chance ....

R.I.P. Tres

When I first saw the Psychic Ills in 2005, they exuded a dark, cult-like presence, so much so that it came as a happy surprise to come to learn what funny, warm-hearted people they all were. We did a couple tours with them over the years, and got to know them a little. 

On and off-stage, Tres was a compelling figure. He could be wise-cracking one-moment and cryptically aloof the next. We picked up on the fact that he operated by his own secrets, though we never could decode them. 

After one of our tours together, I had to go straight to work at a refinery, and I spent a good amount of my 12-to-14 hour shifts on chemical towers texting with Tres. He kept me sane in those times, with his book recommendations, the cool-headed wisdom of some of his off-hand remarks, and his jokes. 

Along with everything else, he was funny, with a comic's sense of timing. Music was a huge part of him, obviously, but he was a person of many parts. He was a cowboy, and he was a friend.

Goodbye, Tres. I have your music and I have my memories, but I will miss talking to you in strange places, swimming in cool waters, and watching you make your next move.

I’ve really struggled to find the words to write abt Tres. Everyday I wake up realizing I won’t be talking with him again. The memories that have come back to me have all been really great. Last week it snowed, and I recalled the winter of ’09 or maybe ’10, eating with him at Great Jones, and him coming out with me to have a cig. And we started throwing snowballs around. And then we started to see who could get one down to the Bowery. And then we hit a bus. And then we hit a cab and the cab slammed his brakes. And then we ran back in and laughed at the bar. I never met his family but I recall T talking abt his mother quite a bit at that time, and in the last few weeks I’ve thought a lot about his family. My thoughts are with you, all of you that were close with T, all of you that knew him at different times of his life, and all of you that loved him.

 I am forever grateful to you for inviting me to collaborate in your early Psychic Ills musical exploits...  it lead me on a path that I'm still forging.   Thanks for the encouragement, inspiration, and friendship throughout the years; it means the world to me.

Tres and I (and my family) were friends for many years. He was one of a very few friends who still lived in the same neighborhood as ours. As I would walk my dog late at night, I used to run into him. He had a particular way of walking. We would stand around and chat briefly, to share our love of music and art, and presence. Tres, thank you for teaching me many things.

I feel very sad today, I am thinking about you, Liz, your family and all the close friends who loved you. I wish I got to know you better as a friend.  I miss eating drinking and laughing with you. Thank you so much for such beautiful memories Tres. I feel you...

When I laid my eyes on you for the very first time pushing your guitar out the arrival terminal of Dusseldorf airport, I knew that here was the big brother that I never had. And a brother you became, a brother to me you always will be. We shared a lot of miles together, a lot of memories. Good times and hard times and I cherish every second that I was so grateful to spend together with you. You always sat up front next to me when cruising down the highways. We'd talk and laugh and sometimes just sit there and enjoy the music or the silence together while keeping our eyes straight ahead starring into the sun or the poring rain. Nothing could stop us.One day somewhere on the streets of Europe we were running a bit late and in order to encourage you getting a move on i said "well, it's your soundcheck" and that joke just never got old on you.  I feel your presence stronger than ever these days and I'll keep you close throughout this life until we get to meet again on the other side.

My deepest condolences to family and friends. Tres had a beautiful and sensitive spirit and I was blessed to share a few years on this earth with him. His deep commitment to his art was apparent, and through it he will continue to inspire others for years to come. He is greatly missed and will be in my thoughts always. This is one of my favorite photos of T, these two had a special bond :)

Our deep sympathy to Tres' family and friends. We have so much sorrow for his passing. We were lucky to collaborate with Tres and share a stage with his band Psychic Ills. My most cherished memory of Tres is from Nathan's film shoot, walking around the forest with him, playing instruments in the daytime woods, singing. It’s incredibly hard to choose just one memory from a friendship that dates back to 2004 but one that always comes to mind is the story of when T was at a bar with a few other guys. The bartender points to a woman and says she’s bought them a round of drinks, and the woman goes: “No no, just for him!” and points at Tres. And clearly that’s not the only time that’s happened. I’ve never been more proud to call anyone a friend and a brother. I love you (visual evidence provided in the attached photo from 2012 or so), and I miss you terribly and can’t wait to see you again. 

I feel honored for getting to know Tres, traveling the world with him playing music. There are so many memories I could write here but I’ll leave one that highlights one of my favorite qualities of him, his sense of humor. Early January of this year I saw a poster for a professional bull riding event at Madison Square Garden happening the night of.  I jokingly texted him a picture of it asking if he was up for it. He almost immediately replied and next thing I knew we had some tickets. We shared stories, talked about music and cheered as we sat amongst the very dedicated fans of Professional Bull Riding .  The next day he was researching the statistics of the  bull riders that he liked, informing me that he was going to start following the league now. That was a good running joke we had. I am going to miss his friendship and hearing him laugh for the rest of my life.   The photo is a picture from (before or after) we played in Santiago Chile November 2016. Whenever we reminisced about that trip he always said “we’ll get back down there someday.”

A photo from one of the most memorable, incredible, and awe inspiring days I have ever experienced.  Here we are on Aug 22, 2017 (the morning after Psychic Ills played the Atlas Obscura Total Eclipse Festival in Durkee, Oregon) 'Staring at the Sun' while we witness the Solar Eclipse in totality.   I am so grateful to be able to hold onto this memory and so many others.  T you will always be in my heart.  I love you forever.

He was my first love..... there’s way too much to say about this guy all I wanna say is that I love you tres....... 

Tres was my first love of my life. I will never forget him him and I spent so many years together often on friends girlfriend and boyfriend me and him were the best of friends even after college. I graduated from tech and he graduated from UT and me and him always stayed in touch and I went to go see him and he took me to the best taco shop in the world in Austin. He literally stole my heart from every man in this world. He was my absolute heart. So blessed For all the years starting from fifth grade until after college that we spent together. He was so smart so kind so funny.... I am truly heartbroken 😞. I think about him daily. 🙏
