John was a devoted husband and found true happiness with his new wife, Lora, and they looked forward to a bright future together in Florida. His plan was to move there at the end of October so they could be together full-time.
John was a loving and supportive father to his twin daughters, Kyra and Kayleigh. They looked forward to their time together with relaxing activities. He gave them fatherly advice and they brought him much joy (and helped him figure out his phone).
John was a caring son and brother, and was always there for his family whenever they needed him. He was also an amazing friend to many people giving selflessly of his time, talents and resources. John's spirit and energy will live on forever in the hearts of all those he touched.
John was a very talented and exuberant heavy metal bass guitarist, and was very close to his bandmates. He played in several bands, including his latest, long-time band Hands of Doom - ASL (American Sign Language) a Black Sabbath tribute band which had a huge fan base.
John was a classic car enthusiast and restoration expert. He had a particular passion for the old Mercury Comet cars and owned several of them. He loved to tinker on his cars and attend car shows with his bandmate Brian, and give helpful advice to other car enthusiasts.
John was a Master Craftsman and specialized in restoring old homes. He was very creative, artistic and innovative, and his work was highly sought after. There was nothing John couldn't fix and no job that he was afraid to tackle.
John suffered from a rare medical condition called Spinal and Bulbar Muscular Atrophy (SBMA), also known as Kennedy's Disease. There was no cure for this condition and it would worsen progressively over time, causing him painful cramps in any area of his body, hand tremors and muscle weakening. In recent months he was treated for several additional ailments: gallbladder removal, stomach problems, liver issues, the flu, medication changes - too much for his body to handle (apparently), but he always put on his beautiful smile and tried to hide his discomfort. He truly believed that he had a long, albeit painful, life ahead of him.
John is survived by his wife, Lora; his two daughters, Kyra and Kayleigh; his sisters, Sue and Linda; and a large extended family.
John wished to be cremated with little fuss or ceremony. A Celebration of John's Life will be held with the date and venue TBA.
