August 31, 1933 to December 31, 2022 — Krikor “Greg” Tashjian, a resident of Toluca Lake, California, ended his journey on earth at age 89, his wife Lucy by his side.
The eldest of three brothers, Greg was born in Jerusalem, Palestine to Vartan and Lydia Tashjian, survivors of the Armenian genocide. His younger brothers are Sebouh and Berj Tashjian, who meant the world to him.
The Tashjian family owned the British Restaurant in Jerusalem, where Greg worked to help his father. Greg attended Serpots Tarkmanchads (Holy Translators) school. At age 16, due to political turmoil, Greg left school to work as an electrician on the Trans-Arabian Pipeline to support his family. When he returned, he attended college at Friends Boys' School, founded by American Quakers in Palestine. Greg majored in liberal arts. Recognized as a talented actor, a benefactor offered him a scholarship to study in England and perform at the Old Vic. However, the family's destiny was to immigrate to the United States.
Greg arrived in New York in 1957, and immediately moved to Los Angeles where he enlisted in the United States Army. He served on active duty in Germany as a medic. In 1966, while visiting London, he met Lucy Costanian on his 33rd birthday. After two dates and a whirlwind romance, they married in thirteen days. They had one daughter, Aleen Lydia; and three grandsons Saro, Sevag and Warren.
Greg spoke Armenian, English, Arabic and Turkish. He enjoyed a career as an interpreter, providing translation services for the Federal and State courts. Upon retirement, he traveled with his wife, went to breakfast with the guys, played cards with friends, and passionately followed the stock market. He loved spending time with and talking to his extended family members, including his cousins.
Greg was generous with his affection. He constantly told his daughter and grandsons how much he loved them and how proud he was of them.
Greg will be remembered for his warmth, exuberant personality, and humor. He lived his life with faith, integrity, generosity, and family values. He attended United Armenian Congregational Church and served as a Deacon.
Greg was predeceased by his parents Vartan and Lydia Tashjian. He is survived by Lucy, his loving wife of 56 years, daughter Aleen and son-in-law Joseph Langton, and his three precious grandsons, Saro, Sevag and Warren, whom he adored.
He is also survived by his beloved brothers and their wives: Sebouh & Shake Tashjian; Berj & Anita Tashjian; niece: Lisa Tashjian and daughter Sophia; and nephews: Dr. Vartan & Jill Tashjian, and their daughter Taylor; and Christopher & Marisol Tashjian.
Greg took his last breath on the last day of 2022. He leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love. His colorful personality will be greatly missed.
Services will be held at Pierce Brothers Valhalla Mortuary in North Hollywood, on January 20, 2023 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to your favorite charity.
