Honoring a Life of Love, Wisdom, and Grace
Today, we gather with heavy hearts and trembling voices to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman—a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, a friend, a confidant, a gentle guide, and the steadfast anchor of our family.
Lidya Avalos Hernandez, a source of love, compassion, and unwavering strength, left us on June 28th, 2025, at the age of 88 years old. Born on June 27th, 1937, in the city of Durango, Mexico; to parents Carlos Avalos and Gabina Hernandez.
Each of us holds a unique tapestry of memories woven with the threads of her kindness, her laughter, and her unwavering love. Though words cannot capture the fullness of her spirit, it is with deep gratitude and reverence that we attempt to express what she meant to us all.
Our Mother was the beating heart at the center of our lives. Her presence was a constant source of comfort, her wisdom a guiding light, her love the shelter in every storm.
She taught us that family is not just blood, but the daily practice of care—listening without judgment, offering comfort without condition, and giving without expecting anything in return. Her home was a haven, and where every guest, friend or stranger, was welcomed as part of our circle.
Our Mother lived a life defined by devotion to God, to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
To those who knew her well, Mother was a pillar of strength. She weathered life's storms with resilience, faith, and grace that inspired all who witnessed it. She faced loss and heartbreak, yet her spirit remained unbroken because she always trusted in God. She was truly a Proverbs 31 woman.
Even as illness diminished her physical strength, her inner light never dimmed, her faith never wavered. She continued to care for others, to offer wisdom, humor, and love. In her final days, she found peace in the presence of family, and her gratitude for a well-lived life was evident in every embrace.
Our Mother’s legacy endures in each of us. It lives on in the lessons she imparted, the values she upheld, and the love she so freely gave. She showed us how to live with grace and to live with dignity.
Let us honor her memory by carrying forward her spirit—by being kinder, by loving more deeply, by reaching out to those in need. Let her legacy be not only the stories we tell but the lives we live.
As we say goodbye, our hearts ache with loss, but they are also filled with gratitude. Gratitude for every moment, every lesson, every embrace. For the laughter she brought into our lives, the comfort she offered in times of sorrow, and the strength she gave us to face each new day. Though the world feels a little colder in her absence, the love she gave endures, warming us from within.
Thank you, Mother, for all you have given us. Thank you for your patience, your wisdom, your enduring love. As you journey onward, know that your memory will remain, a guiding star for all those who loved you. Until we meet again in the presence of the Heavenly Father.
Our Mother Lidya Avalos was preceded in death by sons Miguel Avalos, Carlos Lazalde and Jesus Lazalde. And is survived by sons and daughters Ignacio Lazalde, Cecilia Chavez, Marina Vargas, Martin Lazalde, Martha Lazalde. 25 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and brother Juan Nunez.
We’re grateful for the outpouring of love and support. Let us remember Mother Lidya with smiles and celebrate the impact she had in the lives of all those who knew her. Though we mourn her loss, her love will forever guide us.
Proverbs 31:28,31 “Her children arise and call her blessed; a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.”
