Maceo Conrad Martin, Jr. was born in Danville, Virginia on July 15, 1923 to Maceo Conrad Martin and Lavinia Elaine Henderson Martin. He passed away peacefully on April 30, 2022 in Valley Village, California. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Jewel Jenkins Martin, his parents, and two of his sisters, Irene Vinson and Edwina Martin.
He received a Bachelor of Science degree from The Agricultural and Technical College of North Carolina in 1948. He served as a flight officer at Tuskegee Army Air Field and was honorably discharged in 1946. He served in the United States Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1962.
Like his father before him, his professional career was in banking. Five months after marrying his wife, Jewel, they moved to Los Angeles where they started a family and he continued his banking career. He became a branch manager for Bank of America and was credited with being the first Black bank manager on the West Coast.
He is remembered by friends and family as a true gentleman with an infectious sense of humor. He is survived by his daughter, Delores Martin of Northridge, California; his sister, Paula K.M. Smith of Danville, Virginia; and numerous loving nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
