Dear Lolo,

Your journey from the Phillippines to the United States was definately an expirience. We lived with you for many years. Living with you was an experience as well. You were one of a kind. You helped take care of us and your grandchildren when you were still able to. You would always like to help around, inside and outside the house, pick fruits, watch television, and especially like to smoke in and outside of the house as well. As you continued to age and grow older, you still liked to engage in your physical activities even if your body was not able to. You were a very willful man; you worked hard, preservered through many hardships, overcame your obstacles, and you made it. 

You have taken care of us very well and we did our best to return the favor. We will always miss you. Your presence around the house was something we all were accustomed to. Our routines taking care of you became a part of our everyday lives. Physically the house is more empty without you, but we know you and Lola are still around and most importantly in our hearts. Continue to watch over us Lolo, we love and we miss you.

Lolo, thank you so much for taking care of me when I was little. You walked me to school, along with my cousins, bought us Ok Chinese food, made us take naps, and you made sure we were behaved. Your spanks and discipline helped me to become the person I am today. 

Looking back, you watched me get older and I watched you get older as well. You used to take care of me and then I began to take care of you. You did your best Lolo and I tried my best to return the favor. You were always a funny guy which I really admired. You always liked to tell jokes; tease us, and most importantly laugh. You knew how to have a fun time and to smile even though there may have been nothing to smile about. 

You have worked hard all your life Lolo, and now you can finally rest. Continue to watch over me Lolo and say hi to Lola for me. I love you and miss you.

Dear Lolo Mars,

It saddened me to hear that you have left us. We know that death is certainly a natural part of life, but we can never truly prepare for it emotionally. I was relieved to hear that at least you did not suffer and that you are now resting peacefully.

I would like to thank you for being a grandfather figure to my brother and I. We didn't have the chance to know our real grandfathers since they lived far away in Philippines. Thank you for taking care of us when we were little, for always filling our days with laughter, and for teaching us things a grandfather would.

May you rest peacefully in heaven with Lola. Until we all meet again...
