Born October 1, 1928 • San Pedro Sula, Honduras
With profound love and gratitude, our family honors the life of our matriarch, Marta Emilia Andino, born in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, on October 1, 1928. She was the devoted wife of Antonio Rodríguez Medina and the loving mother of ten children—five sons and five daughters. From the beginning, Marta’s strength was quiet but unmistakable: a steadiness that turned hardship into hope and sacrifice into opportunity.
In the early 1970s, Marta made the courageous decision to emigrate to the United States so she could provide for the family she loved and missed every day. She built a life through unwavering work, caring for private households and raising other people’s children as tenderly as if they were her own. Her work was not a job so much as a calling—she poured dignity into every task and kindness into every room she entered.
Marta’s work ethic was legendary. She kept working well into her eighties, not because she had to prove anything, but because caring was simply who she was. In the end, it was an employer—moved by both admiration and concern—who gently encouraged her to retire. She had carried her years so gracefully that even she scarcely noticed how many had passed.
At home, Marta’s love was most easily recognized around the table. If you came to visit, you did not leave hungry. Her door was open, her hospitality constant, and her welcome sincere. She treated people not of her blood as if they were her own, enlarging our family with every friendship and every shared meal. The soundtrack of that warmth was the music she loved—Vicente Fernández—often playing in the background or hummed under her breath as she moved through her day.
Marta taught us simple, enduring truths: that love is shown in what you do; that generosity multiplies when it is shared; that resilience can be gentle. She led without fanfare, guiding a large family with steady hands and an open heart. Through her ten children and the many lives she touched, her legacy continues—in our kitchens and living rooms, in our habits of care, in the songs that still drift through family gatherings.
We will remember Marta for her courage, her devotion to family, her boundless hospitality, and the joy she found in everyday life. We will honor her by working with integrity, welcoming others as she welcomed us, and turning up the music she loved.
Descanse en paz, Marta Emilia Andino.
Thank you for the love that shaped us, the example that steadied us, and the memories that will carry us forward.
