Olga D Hernandez

Olga Diaz Carral de Hernandez was born in Guanabacoa, Cuba on September 3rd, 1930 to Maria Carral and Marcelino Diaz. During her time in Cuba, she worked for her parents' various businesses, and in that course, met a handsome police sergeant named Pedro Hernandez. They fell in love and married, and their union produced two children, a daughter named Margarita Hernandez and a son named Pedro Hernandez.

In 1959, Fidel Castro's Communist Revolution ended their peace and livelihood in Cuba - the Castro dictatorship confiscated her parents' businesses, arrested and imprisoned her husband, and left her family in fear and deprivation.

In the mid-1960s, she was able to flee Cuba with her children, along with her mother and brother, moving from Puerto Rico to New York before finally settling in North Hollywood, California to raise her children alone with the aid of the family that was able to flee from Cuba. As a single mother, she dedicated herself to raising her daughter and son, working in a local paint brush manufacturing factory to ensure there was food to eat, shelter overhead, and provisions for her family.

Her husband was released from political prison in the early 1970s and eventually reunited with Olga and her family in Los Angeles. Olga was a paragon of virtue, and strived to protect and cherish her family. Her entire life was devoted to her family - from her children, to her husband, to her grandchildren. Up to her last day, all she ever wanted was to ensure the safety and well-being of her family, and her greatest joy was spending time with her family.

She passed peacefully in her sleep on September 29, 2020, at 90 years old, and returned to Heaven to be with her family that preceded her into God's loving grace, including her husband Pedro Hernandez, her brothers, her parents, and her daughter. She is survived by her loving and dedicated son, her sisters, and her grandchildren. She will be dearly and sorely missed, and her memory will remain an inspiration for all that were touched by her life.
