Ramona did not have an easy life but she always made the best of what she had. She grew up poor in Cuba. She started working at the age of 9 to help provide food for her 8 siblings. She cleaned houses and later became a seamstress. She found the love of her life Pedro, got married and then moved to the family dairy farm in 1952. She had her daughter in 1953 and 3 years later moved to the city of San Jose De Las Lajas where they built their home. Soon after they had their son Asterio, and in 1969 they moved to the United States for a better future. Ramona and Pedro had to start all over and continued to work very hard to buy a home. Their next goal was to quickly bring many family members out of Cuba. Ramona was a very talented seamstress, everyone that knew her has memories of her sewing. Typically in her backroom, she would be making a dress for her granddaughter or making a moisés for a new baby. She always made the best ones. In her later years she took on a new hobby, knitting. Everyone wanted a Ramona knitted comforter for their bed because again, hers were the best. She later moved to Sylmar to be closer to her daughter and have a bigger home that she always wanted. Here is where she got to spend lots of time taking care of her great grand kids and cooking for her family. Oh so many great foods, like her Paella, carne con papa, flan, arroz con leche, and so much more. Her loving husband Pedro passed in 2016, and she was heartbroken after 64 years of marriage. In 2022 for health and safety reasons Maria and Armando moved her with them to Las Vegas where Gilberto and Mario helped take excellent care of her.
Ramona was a great woman, she could be a little rough around the edges but she would give anyone the last dollar in her purse to help them out. Her ability to sacrifice, provide, support, and love will be forever engrained in everyone that she knew.
She is now joined with her husband Pedro, her parents and siblings in heaven.
