To Becky's family---
I just learned about Becky's passing this week and I felt deep sadness ---a wonderful person is gone. I remember Becky as kind person, always smiling.  Becky took care of my son, Daniel,when he was a few months old for a few days when I could not find a care-giver---Becky was working night shift then but was willing to help me during those critical days---Daniel is now 23 and I still treasure those days that Becky came to my aid.

Rebecca Santos was born on April 27, 1957 to Gorgonia and Jose D. Santos in the province of Tanay, Rizal, Philippines. Rebecca, or Becky as she was commonly called, was the youngest of nine children. Roslina (Lina), was the eldest, followed by Angelita (Lita), Leovigilda (Gilda), Mirla, Mabel (Baby), Cristeta (Tita), Jose Jr.(Joe), Andrelito (Boyet), and then Becky. When she was a baby, she had big curls and light hair. She was very cute! Gorgonia named Becky after a neighbor, Rebecca, who was very beautiful. As the youngest of the family, the other siblings were quick to protect and care for her even early on.
 
As a child in the 1960's, Becky was very close to her niece, Elenita, who is actually four months older than her aunt. They would pass the time counting buses and they would often go together to the theater to see the movies of Jean Lopez, Jeanne Young, or view the Manila Film Festivals.  Becky spent her pocket money buying music albums and magazines featuring Nora Aunor. Becky was herself a great singer, and was the champion in a singing contest in Tanay.
 
Becky always appreciated the simple things in life. In high school, Boyet and Becky would walk home together.  Along the way, she would pick Gumamela flowers from the street and put them on her ear. She would always try to make Boyet put a flower on his ear also.  Sometimes he would oblige.  She loved the way her youngest brother could make her laugh, something he succeeded at quite often.
 
As a young adult, Becky studied at Family Clinic School of Nursing in Manila, Philippines to pursue a nursing career. She always knew that she wanted to care for others.
 
In her early twenties, Becky moved to the States and lived with her sister Gilda and her family in Sun Valley, and then later with her brother Joe and his family in North Hollywood.
 
Becky continued her career as a nurse in the States, caring for people young and old. She worked for many years at what was known at the time as the Laurelwood Convalescent Home in North Hollywood. There she made many friends with both coworkers and patients. She would oftentimes participate in the volunteer events held at the center, bringing along her niece and family members.
 
For many years, Becky took on the night shift as a nurse. This was so that she would be able to help take care of Joe and his family. She would spend almost every day with her niece, Korinne, and Becky would take her to school and her extracurricular activities such as swimming, gymnastics, and piano. This was a huge sacrifice, considering she would spend most of the day being active before heading back to work in the evening.  She made these sacrifices willingly out of love for her family and others.
 
Becky loved her siblings, and shared a similar loving bond with her nieces and nephews, especially those who grew up in the United States.  In addition to Korinne, she also had Melissa, Melinda, and John Paul (children of Gilda), Kristine (daughter of Cristeta), and Aileen (daughter of Andrelito), all of whom would bring her so much joy every time there was a gathering or family event. With them, she would share interests in pop culture and her love of current music.
 
In fact, Becky loved all types of music and would share this love with everyone. She loved singing karaoke with tagalog songs like, "Kahit Maputi Na Ang Buhok Ko, " Kung Kailangan Mo Ako, and "Nandito Ako."
 
Becky moved with Joe and his family to Panorama City, and then to Sylmar. At this point, she decided to pursue another nursing opportunity at the Simi Valley Hospital, and then later at Olive View Medical Center. Again she took on the night shift, but this time to spend most of her days caring for her youngest nephew, Bryan (son of Joe). She did for Bryan as she did for Korinne, caring for him during the daytime then returning to work in the evening. Becky would always make sure she was there for Bryan's school events like Science fairs and Halloween parades. Often times she would take Bryan to places like Chuck E. Cheese for him to play and enjoy. Becky loved to make other people smile most of all her nieces and nephews. 
 
Becky had many special friends from work. Alegria, Jocelyn, Anne, and Sonia shared many special times with Becky, oftentimes, looking after and caring for her. Their friendship continued even after Becky stopped working.
In her last few months, Becky first lived with her sister Cristeta and her niece, Kristine. Then finally with her sister, Mabel and friend, Jenita. Becky loved spending time with her family, and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandnephew, Lucas, and grandniece, Myla. She loved listening to stories about their adventures each day and loved to share those stories with others.
 
She enjoyed attending Mass every Sunday, and her faith in God was very strong.  She took comfort in her religion, and trusted in God's plan for her.
 
Becky will be remembered for her incredible smile and laugh. It was a big laugh that came from deep inside; it was sincere and contagious. Best of all, that laugh came often. She shared joy and happiness with others in a tremendous way with her kindness and care. She was always appreciative, and made sure to tell you that she was thankful. She loved God, her family, and her friends.  She will be remembered as a kind, generous, and loving soul, and she will be greatly missed by all whose lives she touched.
