Scott was born on March 21, 1958, in Honolulu, Hawaii. At age 15, he moved with his family to Fort Collins, Colorado. He was the beloved son of Jack Herbertson and Reta Wick, and brother to his twin sisters, Leigh and Kyle.
Scott graduated from Colorado State University in 1981 with a bachelor’s degree in Journalism. He continued his education at the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California, earning his M.F.A. in Performing Arts Design & Technology in 1983. After completing his studies, he moved to Hollywood to pursue a career in the movie and television industry, where he found his passion and flourished as a creative professional.
A proud member of IATSE Local 800, Scott contributed his talents to numerous major productions. His film and television credits include Avatar, Captain Marvel, Thor, Alice in Wonderland, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, and Star Wars: Ahsoka. He approached his work with dedication, artistry, and a genuine love for the collaborative spirit of filmmaking.
In 1989, Scott married Jill Herbertson, and together they built a warm and loving family. They raised two children, Adam and Audrey, who brought joy and meaning to Scott’s life. He was preceded in death by his beloved son Adam in 2024, a heartbreaking loss that he faced with profound courage and tenderness.
Scott retired in 2024, embracing a quieter life filled with family, reflection, and the pursuits he cherished most. A longtime practitioner of Kung Fu and Tai Chi, he continued to lead a Sunday group in the park, sharing his calm strength and patient teaching with all who joined. Beyond martial arts, Scott found delight in classic rock and roll, classic Universal horror films, classic Hawaiian shirts, and the family’s classic dog, Gizmo—all lifelong favorites that reflected his joyful quirks and generous spirit.
Scott is survived by his wife, Jill; his daughter, Audrey; and his sisters, Leah and Kyle.
He will be remembered with love by his extended family, his friends, and the many colleagues whose lives he touched throughout his career.
