Dr. Sunita Garg passed away peacefully on June 12, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 55 years old. Sunita's life is a remarkable story of resilience, determination, and service to others.
Struck by polio at a very young age, her resilience was tested daily throughout her life. Later in life, she faced chronic pain, a serious spinal cord condition, other health challenges that affected her quality of life, and ultimately cancer. Yet she never allowed those challenges to define her or limit her dreams. Through hard work, perseverance, and an indomitable spirit, she met every obstacle with courage and grace.
After earning her medical degree in India, Sunita became a General Physician and established her own medical practice, caring for countless patients with compassion and dedication.
In 2001, she moved to the United States with her husband, Rajesh and their two-year-old son Jay, to begin a new chapter in her life. Determined to continue her medical career, she worked tirelessly to pass the United States Medical Licensing Examinations, all while balancing work, family, and motherhood. Her dedication and perseverance led to her acceptance into a Psychiatry Residency Program at Cedars-Sinai in Los Angeles, an achievement that reflected both her intellect and her unwavering commitment to helping others. In 2010, Sunita welcomed her second son, Vijay, and her devotion to her children remained one of the greatest joys and purposes of her life.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Sunita was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She was dearly loved by her family, extended family, and friends. Sunita was an adventurous soul. Through the years, she found ways to hike, play adaptive sports, parasail, paraglide, zipline, ride in a hot air balloon, surf, and ski. She was always an advocate for her children following their dreams, no matter what. She was dedicated to growth and learning throughout her life, even completing a transformational leadership program and beginning to write her autobiography toward the end, as an offering to the world and an inspiration to others facing hardship. Her kindness, warmth, and caring nature touched the lives of many, and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
She is reunited with her beloved father, Chittarmal Agrawal, who passed before her. Sunita is lovingly remembered by Rajesh Garg; her sons, Jay Garg and Vijay Garg; daughter-in-law, Shereen Garg; her mother, ShakuntalaDevi Agrawal; her siblings and their spouses, Sanjay Agrawal and Ravita Agrawal, Sangeeta and Girish Gilothia, and Narayan and Neha Agrawal; Jyoti Agrawal, wife of her late brother, Ajay Agrawal; her in-laws, Shailesh Garg, Meera Garg, Neelam and Das Bihari Agrawal; and many loving nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends in India and the United States.
Though she is no longer with us, her strength, compassion, determination, and spirit will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by her family and future generations.
The family is deeply grateful for the prayers, support, and kindness extended during this difficult time.
