   It’s been hard for me to find words the past few days. I’ve been thinking back on the 19 years I got to share with you, and all I can think is how truly blessed I am to have shared those few years with you. So, I want to thank you for shaping me into the person I am today.

When I was younger, you took me to go get ice cream in my oversized, bleached, ripped Winnie the Pooh pajama shirt. I felt embarrassed to be out in public wearing that, but you told me, “who cares? You don’t know any of these people”. And in that moment, you taught me to always live fearlessly and unapologetically, and I thank you. 

Through your love of theatre, you taught me how to entertain. At family gatherings, I would be the one at the front of the room performing impressions and made up skits to make everyone laugh. You gave me that voice, that confidence and sense of humor, that desire to entertain, and I thank you. 

When I was dropped off at your house after getting sunburned head-to-toe at the beach with Aunt Steph, you yelled at her and then rubbed me down with aloe until I fell asleep next to you in bed. When you would come to Tampa, I would tattle on my own mother to you just so you would give her a stern look and slap her on the tush if she said something “mean” to me. With your unconventional motherly instincts, you were my protector, and I thank you. 

And although you thought I was lesbian for a little while, did over-the-top dance makeup for me, tried to pierce my ears with your used earrings, and always told me I was your favorite when you also told Erica the same thing, I would not trade those 19 years for anything. I will always be your little actress, your Martha Washington, your granddaughter. Thank you for making me the person I am today. I love you.

You were the funniest and most out there grandma anyone could ever have. You most definitely did not act your age, in the best way possible of course- always sticking out your tongue or making some sort of silly face to make us laugh.To make up for the fact that you didn’t act your own age, you would make me and Danielle look a lot older when you came to visit for our dance recitals. You didn’t approve of the makeup job mom would do so you always took it into your own hands and used stage makeup. This approach was a little extra considering how old we were but you really enjoyed it and never forgot your favorite accessory to add, lipstick, which was always a bold red shade. Love you so much xo 💋

You were definitely not a “traditional” mom in any sense of the word, but I wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.  You brought so much joy into my life and the lives of everyone who knew you - your infectious giggle when you really got going, your sometimes “unique” behavior that has given us so many stories - but your never ending love was undeniable.  You always gave the BEST hugs 🤗 and for all these things I am truly grateful. Did I tell you today Mom? I love you and will miss you with all my heart.  You were MY mother (even if it WAS only half a word).

From the very first day Cheryl introduced me to you 30 years ago, you immediately opened your heart to me, made me feel welcomed in your home, and instantly a member of your family. I always felt your love and truly hope you felt mine in return.  You were truly a remarkable mother-in-law whom I loved very much.  So much so, that I never felt comfortable calling you Lyn or Lynette, because it just didn’t feel right.  Instead, I chose to call you Meem, simply because it was a term of endearment, and you were, and will always be, dear to me.  I carry with me so many fond memories of wonderful times I spent with you, and how you would laugh with such joy and happiness. I remember the day I came home from work carrying my briefcase and wearing my suit pants, dress shoes and a piece of paper taped to my bare chest which read, “My Mother-In-Law went to Israel and didn’t even bring me back a lousy t-shirt.”  How you laughed for hours with tears running down your face.  I wish I could hear you laugh like that just one more time.  

While no words can bring you back, I surely know that whenever I think of you, or something reminds me of you, a smile will be in my heart.  I will cherish the loving memories I have of you, until we meet again.
