Alan Jay Rothstein

Alan graduated from the University of the State of New York with a B.A. and later earned his certificates in Certified Public Accounting of New York and New Jersey. He served honorably in the United States Army Reserve and earned Sharpshooter status.

Always working two jobs, he had his own accounting practice while working for various businesses. He was a founding partner and CFO of Clients First Business Solutions in Holmdel, NJ when he retired.

Retirement gave Alan the ability to play year-round. He cheered on his favorite lifelong New York Giants, New York Yankees, and breaking tradition, the New Jersey Devils. He enjoyed tennis, golf, pickleball, and bocce. He taught pickleball to his Rolling Meadows neighbors and won the highly coveted Bocce tournament four years in a row. In addition, he played poker, pinochle, samba, Rummikub, Soduko, and Upwards. He relaxed and read every one of Stuart Woods’ books laughing over Delano, Georgia and Knob Creek bourbon in every one of them.

Alan volunteered his CPA expertise to his communities for many years. He was a board member and Treasurer for the Marlboro Swim Club, and for his fifty-five and older community, Rolling Meadows of Ocean, NJ.

One of the highlights of Alan’s life, that always brought a smile to his face, was the summers at Kozan’s Bungalow Colony in Ellenville, NY. Here the brothers ran wild, enjoying swimming, baseball, and all the joys of being out of the city. At the weekends, entertainment would come and the adults could party also. Alan’s mom always said that when Alan was a baby, Jerry Lewis’s father held Alan on his lap during a show.

In the early adult years, Alan coached Youth Soccer for both of his children and later watched proudly as they advanced to traveling teams. The family also enjoyed trips to visit family and see the sights in Florida, Arizona, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and California. They once stopped in the middle of the night to see a glorious eclipse of the moon in the desert. During this time, he bowled and was captain of a Marlboro Softball Team playing first base and pitcher. He occasionally used his son, the ringer, and his brother as substitutes.

Their Florida home enabled Alan and Fran to see his children, grandchildren, and brother’s family often. They celebrated birthdays, holidays, babysat, swam, danced, attended plays, cheered at sports events, ate ice cream and black and white cookies, and went to parks to play games. Often his brother from NY flew in to join the fun.

They loved to travel and became diamond members on one of the cruise lines. They have followed the sun to most of the island countries in the Caribbean and traveled to many states, including Alaska where they landed on a glacier in a helicopter and Hawaii where they bicycled down a volcano. They drove through all the states from New Jersey to the campus of The University of Florida where both of his children went to college. They had wonderful vacations including France, Italy, England, Croatia, Monaco, and Greece indulging in delicious cuisine, exciting excursions, and breath-taking scenery.

Alan will be remembered for his love, generosity, dignity, and dry sense of humor. He is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Shirley Rothstein. He is survived by his wife, the love of his life, Fran Holck; his two children Marc and Meryl (Andrew); as well as his three grandchildren: Kailee, Reece, and Joss. He is also survived by his brothers Fred, Bob, (Marla) and their son Scott, and nieces Meredith and Avery.

Alan was loved and respected by his New Jersey family, sister-in-law Margaret (Joe) and their two children, six nieces and nephews, and one grandnephew.

We celebrate Alan’s life and his memory will live in our hearts forever.

A private burial will be in Florida. A memorial service will follow, later, in New Jersey.
