Allen was born on May 29th, 1941 to Harold and Ruth Green in the Bronx, New York. After Allen graduated from Forest Hills High School in 1959, he went on to study Business Administration at New York University, graduating in 1963.
For most of his career, Allen sold wholesale food to hospitals and nursing homes. His second career and true passion was poker. He most loved to compete in poker tournaments, specifically limit tournaments. He finished in the top ten of major poker tournaments about 40 times in his life. In 2001, he was listed in Card Player magazine as finishing 7th in the world in 7 Card Stud Hi/Lo.
Allen loved his family and was an extremely devoted and engaged son, husband, father, and grandfather. As much as he loved poker, he always put family first.
Allen didn’t have any siblings. He was predeceased by his mother Ruth Green in April of 1990 and father Harold Green in May of 1993. He is survived by his wife Judith Green, his son Richard Green, his stepdaughters Brooke Cohen and Carrie Goldstein, and grandchildren Jared Cohen, Jamie Cohen, and Joshua Goldstein.
In his memory, donations can be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or Wounded Warrior Project.
