

Allen Kaplan of Tamarac, FL, husband of Roberta Kaplan, passed away on August 29, 2023 at the age of 91. He was born on November 30, 1931 in Brooklyn, NY, and was the son of the late Julius and Fannie Kaplan.
Raised in Brooklyn, Allen graduated from Tilden High School and Brooklyn College with a degree in Accounting. He served in the Army from August 1953 to June 1955. While serving in the military, Allen met the love of his life, Roberta, on a blind date. The two were married on December 23, 1956, and were inseparable for 66 years.
Allen and Roberta moved from Brooklyn to Wantagh Long Island in 1966, where they raised a son, Jay, and a daughter, Ilene. Allen was a Partner in an accounting firm and subsequently a Professor of Accounting and Department Chair at Long Island University. He was also a member of the Masons. After retiring in 1992, he and Roberta moved to Tamarac, FL. In Florida, Allen led an active life, volunteering with Roberta at University Hospital, using his education skills to teach AARP driver safety classes, and starting new hobbies including photography and painting. While always a devoted fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and the NY Giants, he happily rooted for teams in his new home, the Florida Marlins and the Miami Dolphins.
Allen is survived by his loving family: Wife Roberta of Tamarac, FL; Ilene Jacobs (daughter) and Gordon Jacobs (son-in-law) of Boca Raton, FL; Jay Kaplan (son) and Linda Kaplan (daughter-in-law) of Westfield, NJ. He leaves behind four grandchildren: Matthew Jacobs and Amy, Brian and Alex Kaplan. He will be remembered as a beloved and loving husband, father, grandfather and uncle, who cared about family above all else. Donations can be made in Allen’s memory to the American Heart Association.
