 Annette was my aunt through marriage. She grew up in Germany, and went to the university and received a chemistry degree. She was also a competitive swimmer,  and would have tried to compete in the 1936 Olympics except that she was Jewish. During World War II, she escaped Germany and hid in a convent un til the end of the war.  She credited the nuns at the con vent for saving her life.  In the late 1940s, Annette immigrated to the United States  where she met my uncle Jack,. They were subsequently married, childless, and retired to Florida in the early 1970s. I last spoke to Annette about six or seven years ago  but as she was developing severe hearing loss and dementia, our phone conversations ended. Until her mid 90s, she would swim in her neighborhood pool, which accounts for a long life. On multiple occasions, she returned to Germany, met with her childhood friends,  none of whom were Jewish. She never blamed them for the atrocities of World War II.
